Hi all, The Club had its senior Presentation Night on Saturday at the Mulgrave Country Club. It was a great evening, with a number of players being recognised for their excellent achievements over the 2017/18 season. On behalf of the Club, I did want to share some special achievements and awards for those that couldn’t make it there on the night.
JAKE RIGBY - VSDCA U21 PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Presentation Night gave us the opportunity to further acknowledge Jake Rigby who had been awarded the Victorian Sub-District Cricket Association’s Under 21 Player of the Year at the Val Holten Medal Night. Jake had a sensational season taking 34 wickets at an average of 16.85 and a best bowling performance of 7/47. This is the second year running that Jake has been nominated for this award and he still has a couple of seasons of eligibility to go! He was also a VSDCA Team of the Year nomination and would have gone very close to being selected. This is a great honour for Jake and something he and the Club should be very proud of.
LIFE MEMBERSHIPS - DAVID HEGARTY & ADAM TERNES
The Club was delighted to admit two new Life Members on Presentation Night – here is a bit about our newest Life Members…
We congratulate David and Adam on their contribution to the Club and are thrilled to be able to honour them with Life Membership.
IAN BOYLE AWARD
As we have acknowledged through the year, Ian Boyle was inducted as an inaugural Life Member of the VSDCA earlier this year. Ian’s on-field achievements have been significant and ongoing, having played his 300th game this summer. However, his contribution to the Club as a long-time committee member has made a significant difference to operation and success of our Club. The Club has had an annual ‘Best Clubman’ award to acknowledge the committee member that has made the best contribution to the Club over the past season. To further honour Ian, we have now renamed this award in his name – the Ian Boyle Award. At Presentation Night we were pleased to present the first Ian Boyle awards…
Peter took on the committee portfolio of sponsorship and grants – a critical function for our Club in an increasingly difficult financial environment for community Clubs like ours. In the last 12 months we have increased our sponsorship revenues by over four times! In addition, Peter secured a number of grants and restructured our bar operation – both of which have contributed significantly to the improved financial performance of the Club. Beyond this Peter has organised events, including presentation night, and co-captained our newly formed fifth eleven team with Andrew Oxley. In short, his contribution to the Club was far-reaching and has made an incredibly positive difference to our Club.
Melissa plays a critical role in the general administration of our junior program, including supporting the management and delivery of junior apparel – a significant effort for one of the largest junior cricket Clubs in Melbourne. However, it was Melissa’s leadership of our junior girl’s program that we specifically want to acknowledge. Only two weeks before the start of the season we had less than half a team of girls – within days Melissa had organised three junior girl’s teams! Melissa oversaw the management of these teams, including our relationship with our partner Club – Glen Waverley CC, and our girls had a wonderful season of achievement including having three girls win individual awards, Emily Sharkey win a player of the season award and seven of our girls play representative cricket. Melissa’s passion and leadership is help building the foundation of girl’s cricket at our Club – something we are tremendously proud of and for which Melissa’s deserves this acknowledgment.
These awards will now form a normal part of our presentation nights going forward. We look forward to acknowledging the achievements of our Club members – on and off-field in years to come.
